I look through all of the processes only to be disappointed in finding nothing that actually takes up so much memory, not a bunch of things put together or a few big things. It used to be unless I was playing a game or doing something graphically demanding I was at about 5% or less at all times. I haven't really done anything that I can think of in the last four or five days that would warrant a constant use of about 30% of my total RAM at all times.I've looked through the Resource Monitor multiple times from top to bottom, the one thing that's taking up the most RAM right now is of course Firefox..and honestly that's only 126.5k. I've even went through and totaled up the memory of all the processes that it shows me and it doesn't come out to anything -near- 30% of my total RAM. I have done multiple virus/spyware/adware/etc scans and according to my computer Disk Fragmentation is at 0%, I've also done a disk error check and removed unneeded files in my temporary folders and what not. Below is the information about my computer that it gave me when it evaluated itself.System Manufacturer Alienware Model M17x Total amount of system memory 4.00 GB RAM System type 64-bit operating system Number of processor cores 4 Storage Total size of hard disk(s) 218 GB Disk partition (C:) 124 GB Free (218 GB Total) Media drive (D:) CD/DVD Graphics Display adapter type NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G Total available graphics memory 1919 MB Dedicated graphics memory 256 MB Dedicated system memory 64 MB Shared system memory 1599 MB Display adapter driver version 8.17.11.9562 Primary monitor resolution 1440 900 DirectX version DirectX 10 Network Network Adapter NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller Network Adapter Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter Network Adapter Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) -The following is the information of what I'm running in processes right now. Each is listed by the amount of Private Memory it's taking up from greatest to least. I may be wrong, yet I'm pretty sure these do not add up to the 1360 MB out of 4GB of RAM it's claiming to use. Now because it may make a difference I'm leaving in all the numbers. The first number you see after the name of the process is the Process ID, the second number is the Hard Faults per second, the third is the Commit memory or the amount of virtual memory reserved by the operating system for the process, the fourth number you see after the name of each of the processes is the Working memory or amount of physical memory currently in use by the process, the fifth number is the Shareable memory or the amount of physical memory that is in use by the process that can be shared with other processes, and the final number you see after the name of each of the processes listed below is the private memory or the amount of physical memory that cannot be shared by other processes. To make it easier to read I've numbered each number type 1-6 in parenthesis. I've also taken the liberty of spacing the larger ones as well. I really hope this helps as I tried to provide as much information as I could that may relate to the problem. All of the numbers here are generated from the diagnostics of my computer, they are listed in KILOBYTES and not just pulled out of thin air. If more information is needed to figure out the problem of the diaeppsaring RAM please be specific of what info is needed and where to find it, my thanks.Image- (#1)PID (#2)Hard Faults/sec (#3)Commit (KB) (#4)Working Set (KB) (#5)Shareable (KB) (#6)Private (KB)firefox.exe- (#1)904 (#2)0 (#3)136,420 (#4)154,160 (#5)27,328 (#6)126,832svchost.exe (LocalSystemNetworkRestricted)- (#1)6016 (#2)0 (#3)88,644 (#4)99,224 (#5)14,196 (#6)85,028sidebar.exe- (#1)4044 (#2)0 (#3)79,804 (#4)43,180 (#5)17,208 (#6)25,972explorer.exe- (#1)3644 (#2)0 (#3)44,024 (#4)62,952 (#5)38,092 (#6)24,860perfmon.exe- (#1)1064 (#2)0 (#3)20,732 (#4)31,528 (#5)12,628 (#6)18,900svchost.exe (netsvcs)- (#1)912 (#2)0 (#3)30,680 (#4)28,276 (#5)11,992 (#6)16,284dwm.exe- (#1)4868 (#2)0 (#3)27,476 (#4)34,860 (#5)20,896 (#6)13,964svchost.exe (secsvcs)- (#1)5460 (#2)0 (#3)62,652 (#4)15,916 (#5)3,836 (#6)12,080ccSvcHst.exe- (#1)1948 (#2)0 (#3)44,752 (#4)18,344 (#5)6,884 (#6)11,460SearchIndexer.exe- (#1)4280 (#2)0 (#3)31,688 (#4)15,824 (#5)5,204 (#6)10,620FAService.exe- (#1)1316 (#2)I accidentally failed to note that I am running Windows 7. Also until just recently I wasn't using more than 5-7% when standing mostly idle, like it is now. Though with all the answers claiming that this sort of thing is normal, I don't have any reason to believe otherwise.
