I hope you can help me
Along with my new Adaptec CD writer, came a cautionary notice to disable bios power management before installing the writer. What does this mean? Are there any other things to disable (software) before i begin installing? I have a pentium 3 and im running Windows 98.
Also, Where on my system do i install the driver from the floppy that came with the writer?
Thank you |

| Eric Georgieff on May 18, 2001 | RE: CD Writer installation
I do not believe you have much to worry about. Your BIOS's power saving features should have very little effect on your installation. It was only a precaution that Adaptec suggested, and I highly doubt it is well founded. You should not need to disable any other system settings.
As for the drivers, if you're running Windows 98, you shouldn't need any. Why I installed my HP Cd-Writer Plus 8200i, I did not even need to install additional drivers. Windows simply detected the drive and used it as it would any other.

I have just upgraded my system to Windows XP and now my Adaptec CD Writer (Iomega Zip CD 650) does not work. The system recognizes this hardware as a CD drive but not as a writer. I tried to find some driver updates in the Adaptec page but no such luck.
As for the software I have Roxio WinOnCD 3.8 Pro as well as CD Easy Creator 5 Basic with the updates for XP. Can someone please help me?! Thanks in advance. |

| Eric Georgieff on May 9, 2002 | RE: CD Writer installation
Martin Wilson,
I own an HP CD-Writer Plus 8200 and am running Windows 2000. The CD Writer simply worked without the need to install any drivers. As far as I know, it's only your CD writing software (such as Adaptec Easy CD Creator) that actually needs to be able to recognise the CD-Writer to work with it.
I did however have a problem getting it to work at first. Adaptec Easy CD Creator could not seem to detect the CD-Writer and kept complaining that I could not write to CD-Rs since the drive was not a writer. The problem was easily fixed by reinstalling my cd creation software (Adaptec Easy Creator 4.0 Deluxe in my case).
Since we both have exactly the same situation, I highly doubt that your problem is driver related.

I have installed a cd writer as the master and a cd-rom as the slave. When I try to access either of them I get the message that the device is not ready. Any suggestions? I have checked and there are no conflicts.

| Eric Georgieff on May 12, 2002 | RE: CD Writer installation
Hey folks,
There have been many request lately for various CD-Writer drivers. The reason many people are unable to find drivers for their CD-Writers is that CD-Writers operate without the need for any system level drivers. That means that Windows will work with your CD-Writer without the need to install any specific drivers just as it does with all IDE/ATAPI devices such as hard drives and CD-Rom drives. Since Windows is using your CD-Writer only to read, it can use a generic CD-Rom driver.
You will however require CD writing software, such as Roxio Easy CD Creator (formerly known as Adaptec Easy CD Creator) or Nero Burning ROM, that is compatible with your CD-Writer model since the writing method employed by CD-Writers varies according to the drive manufacturer and the drive model and must be known by the CD mastering software that needs to access the writer.
To find out what version of Easy CD Creator supports your particular CD-Writer model, please visit Roxio's CD-R Database (look in the "Which Roxio CD-R Software supports my Recorder?" section).

My logic is that I have used the Iomega Zip 650 CD-R in the past using the old software on the same computer and it works. When I install Hotburn it does not."Something is wrong." Nothing else has changed.
Response from Iomega follow:
This email is in response to an earlier chat session which you had with us. I have gone through your email transcripts completely. As you specified that you are getting error message "error reading table of contents from drive." This error message can be caused by either outdated USB chipset drivers (I Updated the drivers) or by a source CD-ROM drive that is not supported by Iomega HotBurn(I Ran the Hotburn test The source CD-ROM passes the Iomega Hotburn test), please follow the instructions from the link provided below for troubleshooting: Did not work same results
http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/11333.html
You may also follow the link provided below for information on running system test using Iomega HotBurn software: Worked for the source CD-ROM
http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/11118.html
Serial Number you provided show that you have Iomega ZipCDRW Drive which is a product of Iomega.
Sincerely,
Andren

hi all,
solved the CD R-W problem. If windows media player is already installed before the CD R-W is installed it conflicts with the CD R-W ( somewhere i read it). Try to uninstall the entire CD R-W software and start reinstalling the drivers. It worked for my system. IF not maybe remove even the Media player and start reinstalling the CD R-W driver.
